With gas prices so high, everyone can use help saving fuel. Here are some free ways to save money at the pumps:
Watch the needle
Many cars both old and new have a display for fuel consumption. Of course, watch the road, but also pay attention to that needle or display. It's an easy way to see how your driving is affecting your fuel bill. Over time, it can make you a better, smoother driver.
Relax!
Driving like a maniac, always in a rush is one of the worst things you can do. Leave a little earlier and drive slower. Don't floor the gas at highway on-ramps etc.

Don't speed
Vehicles are tuned for national speed limits. Most cars work most efficiently on the highway at 55-70 Mph. Go above that and your fuel consumption increased rapidly. Plus, you run the risk of a speeding ticket. Benefit: 7-23% better fuel economy according to the U.S. Department of Energy.
OIL
Your engine runs best on a specific grade of motor oil. It could be 10W-30 or 0W-20, it doesn't matter. Just make sure you've got the grade recommended in the owner's manual.

Tires work best when inflated to the level intended by their manufacturer. The recommended tire pressure is usually printed on a sticker on the driver's side door frame and in the owner's manual.
